Pre-Meeting Road Rally – Dahlonega to Clarksville

Fellow NEGMC members,

I’m putting together a rally for our trip up to Clarksville for our meeting this Saturday.

As some of you may recall, we tried this last year the day before V-Day.  “Valentine Massacre on Blood Mountain” was an event few will forget, especially those that haven’t spoken to me since.  I may have established a hostile mood for many valentine celebrations last year.  The good news this year, Valentine’s Day is behind us as are the Falcons!  So come on out and enjoy the fun and frustration a rally can provide.  The weather looks much better than last year with mid 60’s forecast so the” Steeds” can get some exercise although a daily driver will do.

For those of you that haven’t participated in one of these in the past, here’s the quick overview.  This is a driving event based on time recorded for two individual segments and overall time.  It is not a race! The time target for the segments and overall time will be established by the event coordinator which will time the course prior to the event at a max of five miles an hour over the posted speed limit.  The drive will be done on back roads so those of you who love the thrill of the interstate, may be disappointed that 75 miles an hour will likely not be required unless you’ve made a mistake or get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle and need to make up time. You will be given clues to spot that will guide you along the proper route, not street names or route numbers.  It is up to you to decipher via the clues what roads to take when. Good luck with your GPS!

After learning the rally aptitude of some of our members last year, I will make this so easy a blind person will be able to drive this!!!  A navigator/spotter is a highly desirable asset to bring along! You will be given a sealed backup map of the route to use if you really think you are astray, but it will cost you a time penalty if opened up. Last year participants didn’t know where they were to end up. This year, everyone knows where you should end up. Hawg Wild in Clarksville!!! So how hard can this be?

The winners for each segment, those closest to the time set by the coordinator, will be awarded huge prizes as will the overall winner. The size of the prizes will be based on the number of participants so the more the merrier $$, for the winners at least!   Listed below are a few things you need to bring:

Time piece that records minutes and seconds (one of them smart phones should work)

Navigator/Spotter/Recorder/Sidekick with a sense of humor will be very helpful as will a fully fueled vehicle and empty bladders.

$10 participation fee for funding the huge prizes

I will supply everything else but I do need a car count.

The event will begin in Dahlonega at the Lumpkin County Admin Building, 99 Courthouse Hill, Dahlonega, Ga. 30533. Go around back by the Library.  We will need to assemble by 11:45am so I can go over everything and answer any questions. Cars will once again leave on a staggered basis so it is necessary I know how many cars are planning to participate to allow enough time.

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Thanks, Gary

NEGMC January Meeting and After Christmas Party

Our after Christmas party will be held on Sunday, January 15th, beginning at 2:00 PM at the Sugar Hill Community Center located at 1166 Church St, Sugar Hill, GA, 30518. The club will provide meat and fixings, drinks, plates, plastic utensils, etc.  Each member is asked to bring a side or dessert.  The Sugar Hill Community Center has a full kitchen with an oven, microwave, refrigerator and several plugs for crockpots.

We will eat first, then have our January meeting and officer installation after which will be our highly anticipated white elephant gift exchange.

If you want to participate in the gift exchange bring a wrapped (without a to/from tag) gift with a value of no more than $15.00. The gift can be either a “real” gift or a “gag” gift. If both members of a couple want to participate, bring a gift from both.  If you are bringing children, and they are welcome, please bring a gift for them. We will have a separate gift exchange for the children so they will not potentially receive something inappropriate for a child.

Because we need to know how much meat to purchase and prepare, we do need to know how many people will be attending.  Please RSVP back to me via email ( ) by 12/31 to let me know if you are coming and how many will be in your party.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

The December meeting also was when our elections for our club officers for 2017/2018 was supposed to be held.  After nominations which were due by our November meeting, we had one nomination/volunteer for each position so elections won’t be necessary.
Our 2017/2018 officers will be:
  • President: Lou Manglass (stepping up from the VP role he stepped into earlier this year)
  • Vice President:  Scott Mossbrooks
  • Secretary:  Karen Manglass
  • Treasurer:  Cher Hayslip
Congratulations and thanks for stepping up everyone, I look forward to working with you all during the transition and on down the road as we keep the club moving forward.

September Car Shows

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

I think everyone is looking forward to some cooler weather and even cooler car shows this fall.

For September we have car shows each of the upcoming weekends beginning with:

Saturday, September 10th – The Dixie Cruisers are hosting a show at the Jug Tavern in Winder, GA from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  If there’s interest let me know via email (Rick Hayslip ) and we will put together a group for this show.

Saturday, September 17th – The Foose Edition of the Braselton Bash will be held at YearOne in Braselton, GA from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Here’s a link to info on this event:

Cher and I are hosting the Saleen Club of America, which is having their Annual Georgia State Reunion at the show. YearOne is reserving parking for SCOA members/Saleens and NEGMC members who have Saleens will/may be parking with the Saleen group. We are entering the popular vote $25 portion of the show, but if you are interested in doing the Foose Select at $100 and all that goes with it (see link above), you will be parked separately with the Foose Select cars.

Because of Cher and my involvement with the Saleen Club, I am asking for a volunteer who would be willing to coordinate an outing for the NE Georgia Mustang Club to this event. If someone would like to arrange a meeting place and time for NEGMC members so that our members can come into the show together and park together, please let me know via email or at 678-371-5799 and we will get the word out. Otherwise NEGMC members coming to the show will not be parked as a group.

Saturday, September 24th – Georgia Regional will be holding it’s annual car show at John Bleakly Ford in Lithia Springs, GA. As above, please let me know if you are planning on attending this show and we will put together a caravan group, email me at

Let me know if you have any questions, we’ve got a busy couple of months coming up including Maggie Valley, our Toys for Tots show, and many other shows.  We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at many of these events

July NEGMC Meeting & Club Cruise

Your NEGMC will hold a combination North Georgia mountain cruise and club meeting on July 23rd. The cruise will stop in Hiawassee, GA for a late lunch/early dinner and meeting before returning. The route up is composed of mostly gently curving mountain roads that I think every age Mustang will handle easily.  The route back will have a couple sections that will be a bit more demanding that our Gen1 Mustangs can handle if driven at a slower pace.  When we get to those sections we will stop and stage the late models and “built” Gen 1s in front.  Any driver that would like to take a more leisurely pace can stage with the second group. Additionally if anyone would rather not drive the twisty roads, they can bypass this section of roads and take a more direct route home.  Both the drive up and back will consist of approximately 2 hours of driving time and on the way up we have planned another 1/2 hour stop for pictures, scenery viewing and a shorter stop planned for ice cream.

Now for the details:

Cruise – For those joining us for the cruise we will meet at the Oakwood QuikTrip (northeast corner of the I-985 and GA-53 interchange) before 12:30 and leave on the drive at 12:30 sharp.  Please make sure you have a full tank of gas and an empty bladder as there will be no restroom breaks early in the drive except for individuals pulling off at gas stations, then catching up with the group.  Later in the drive the only restroom opportunities will be a couple of state parks that we pass.  Everyone will be given printed driving directions before we leave, so in the event we get separated you can still follow the route.

Meeting – Our meeting will be at Daniel’s Steak House; 273 Big Sky Drive; Hiawassee, GA 30546 at 3:00.  Daniel’s Steak House offers ordering off a menu or a reasonably priced buffet including salad and dessert.  Those that want to attend the meeting, but not the club cruise to the meeting can meet us at the restaurant at 3:00.

Please include the number of people in your group as our meeting will be in a separate room at the restaurant for which we will need to provide them an accurate headcount.  Email me at: if you will be joining us for both the cruise and club meeting, or if you will be joining us at Daniel’s Steak House just for the club meeting.

Please RSVP by Sunday July 17th.

Looking forward to it,

Rick Hayslip

NMRA Car Show – Commerce, GA

The car show on Saturday will be a popular vote show, however the car show on Sunday will be a judged show.

You can email your interest to Keith at and he will communicate a meet location and time to those that are interested.

Also there will be drag racing under the auspices of the NMRA and NMCA starting on Thursday and continuing thru Sunday, plus a vendors area to visit.

Upcoming Events

From Rick Hayslip:

Here are some upcoming events to put on your calendar, for a complete list of events see the calendar on our newly updated website.

If you would like to caravan down to Macon, we will be meeting at the McDonalds at the Pleasant Hill Road and I-85 interchange at around 8:15 and will be leaving at 8:30 sharp.  We’d love to have other members join us, just let me know if you are planning on joining us, so we know who to expect at the McDonalds.
Set aside Sunday April 24th for our next club meeting, this will also be our initial planning session for this fall’s Maggie Valley show.  We are still working on the location, but are thinking about 2:00, and will communicate the time and location as soon as plans are finalized.
Also, set aside Saturday June 4th.  Your Club is planning to attend Hot Rod night at the Tiger Drive In.  We will be arranging a caravan up to the drive in, and also are working on hotel arrangements for those that want to stay up in that area Saturday night.  More details will be communicated, I just wanted to get the date out there for planning.

NEGMC Spring Pony Roundup

Many thanks to Mustangs Unlimited for their continuing support and to all of the members who came out to help with the show, without your aid and assistance your club’s shows would not be possible.  Thanks to everyone who brought their Mustangs/Fords out to our Annual Spring Pony Roundup at Mustangs Unlimited.   There were 74 registered cars at the show which was a good outcome considering the chilly temps and windy conditions.  See you at the next show!

**** The NEGMC Spring Pony Roundup is Postponed until Sunday, March 20, 2016 ****

Spring Pony Roundup – Mustangs Unlimited Car Show that was scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2016 has been delayed due to the weather, the new date is Sunday, March 20, 2016.
